Lewis S. Eaton Trail

Of all the time I’ve spent in Fresno, one of my most favorite things to do here is to explore its trails. There’s this very pretty trail in North Fresno, which covers Woodward Park, a view of the bluffs, and the San Joaquin River. I never knew the trail’s official name however, which is the Lewis E. Eaton Trail.

The Lewis S. Eaton Trail is the backbone of the growing trail network central to the planned 22-mile San Joaquin River Parkway. The main trail currently offers more than 5 paved miles through Woodward Park and beyond, with wide dirt shoulders for those who prefer running off road. The trail presents views of the San Joaquin River bottom and distant Sierra Nevada mountains as the route heads north along the river bluffs. Spur trails in Woodward Park offer a natural surface alternative for equestrian users. In the north, the trail ends at the Coke Hallowell Center for River Studies, where you can learn about the cultural and natural history of the river and its adjacent lands.
