I seem to come across the most random, but interesting things. Despite having been in Fresno for well over a decade, I’ve never heard of Fresno’s First Tree, which I only read about trying to learn a bit more about Christmas Tree Lane. Maybe you didn’t know either. Anyways, the story of the First Tree is a tradition that kickstarted the whole idea of Christmas Tree Lane. It a deodar cedar (which is most of the trees in the lane) that had been planted in 1920. It was planted (and decorated) in front of the home where a child had died to an accident. The tree has been dying since, but as a significant Fresno landmark its legacy has been preserved. The tree has been cloned by pieces of that had been cut to become their own trees.
