There are more and more scooter thefts occuring at Fresno State University; I myself was the victim of a scooter theft, which pretty much prompted the purchase of my new Segway F3 scooter. FSU’s Collegian is also picking up on this (who couldn’t?). Of course, now is a perfect time to make sure you take all the necessary steps to protect your ride. All too often, I see students leave their scooters unattended and not secured to anything. Unless your electric scooter has GPS tracking and a digital lock method that requires your phone/a code, most electric scooters are pretty easy for a thief to ride off with.
Obviously, lock up your scooter when you plan to be away. But not with cheap, cable locks. You need a high quality u-lock (Kryponite) or anything equivalent in security. It’s worth noting that some Kryponite locks have insurance for whatever was stolen if the lock itself got defeated. Also, take advantage of any security features your ride may have. Some electric scooters can be registered on Apple’s “Find My” network so that you can track it almost anywhere. Some may have the option to require a registered device or code to unlock. Finally, the last thing you can do is registering your mobility device at Fresno State.
