Chinatown historic landmark destroyed in fire

A significant piece of Fresno’s past is gone. One of the oldest standing buildings in Chinatown, constructed in 1895, was reduced to rubble after a two-alarm fire tore through the structure early Sunday morning.

Members of the Fresno City and County Historical Society say it’s a huge loss for the city of Fresno.

The building, once a bustling cornerstone for immigrants arriving in Fresno more than a century ago, served generations from around the world.

Fresno Historical Society President, Elizabeth Laval, said the news hit them hard.
