Highway 41 going north has some notably new signage. I was running errands last week when I noticed the impressive call out to Madera County. For those of you who are not familiar with the area it really does have a lot to offer residents and visitors of the greater Fresno area.

As the southern entrance to Yosemite National Park, Madera County is a fun filled region of outdoor adventures, wine tasting, fishing and historic museums.

Madera County, officially the County of Madera, is a county at the geographic center of the U.S. state of California. As of the 2010 census, the population was 150,865. The county seat is Madera.

Madera County comprises the Madera, CA Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is included in the Fresno-Madera, CA Combined Statistical Area. It is located in the eastern San Joaquin Valley and the central Sierra Nevada.


Madera County holds 7 jails with a total of 98,424 inmates. It covers over 21,000 square miles and hosts Chukchansi Gold Resort and Casino as well as Bass Lake.
